Malin Åkerman and Lauren Ambrose were announced as cast members on September 15.[3] Ambrose played a member of the freewheeling commune that the two stars come into contact with en route to Atlanta.[4] On October 5, Alan Alda was announced to play "the head of a naturist village".[6] Michaela Watkins was announced to play Rudd's sister-in-law on October 18.
David Wain announced the addition of Jordan Peele to the cast on his blog on September 12[7] and Ken Marino and Kerri Kenney-Silver on September 19. Paul Rudd reunited with Jennifer Aniston for the first time in seven years, since they both co-starred together in 18 episodes of the sitcom Friends. The two also co-starred in the 1998 comedy The Object of My Affection also with co-star Alan Alda.
Production
David Wain began chronicling the film's production and pre-production on his blog on May 21, 2010.[10] Most of the production took place in Georgia. Additional material was filmed in New York City and Los Angeles.
Filming
Filming took place in a number of places in Georgia: the Gwinnett Diner in Lawrenceville (which was also used for a scene in the film Road Trip); a subdivision called Miramonte Way off Ozora Road in the Lawrenceville, Georgia area;[11][12] and in Habersham County, off of New Liberty Road.[13]

The film was released on February 24, 2012. During its first weekend ending February 26, Wanderlust opened at #8 behind Act of Valor and Tyler Perry's Good Deeds with $6.5 million from 2,002 locations.[14] Given its poor debut, it was considered a box-office flop.[15][16] After six weeks, it concluded its theatrical run with a respective domestic and foreign gross of $17,288,155 and $4,162,198.[17]
Wanderlust was released on Blu-ray and DVD on June 19th, 2012[18]
Reception
The film opened with mixed to positive reviews. Based upon 129 reviews, it received a 60% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Among 35 top critics, it obtained a 54% approval rating with the consensus saying, "It isn't always as funny as it should be, but Wanderlust benefits from an extremely talented cast and some of David Wain's most confident, assured work behind the camera."[19] Audiences gave it a B- CinemaScore.
