Savages is a 2012 American film directed by Oliver Stone. It is based on the novel of the same name by Don Winslow. The screenplay was written by Shane Salerno & Don Winslow & Oliver Stone. The film is set for release July 6, 2012, and features an ensemble cast including Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, Benicio del Toro and John Travolta[1].

Storyline
Entrepreneurs Ben, a peaceful and charitable marijuana producer, and friend Chon, a former Navy SEAL, run a lucrative, homegrown industry - raising some of the best weed ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with Ophelia. Life is idyllic in their Southern California town... until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them. When the merciless head of the BC, Elena and her enforcer, Lado, underestimate the unbreakable bond of the three friends, Ben and Chon - with the reluctant assistance of a dirty DEA agent - wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and maneuvers in a high stakes, savage battle of wills.

Premise
Under the leadership of Elena Sanchez, a.k.a Elena La Reina, (Salma Hayek) and Miguel, a.k.a. Lado, (Benicio del Toro), a Mexican drug cartel, formally called the Baja Cartel, kidnap Ophelia (Blake Lively), the girlfriend of marijuana growers Ben (Aaron Johnson), a University of California, Berkeley graduate, and Chon (Taylor Kitsch), a former U.S. Navy SEAL. Ben and Chon must now confront the group formerly known as the Baja Cartel in order to rescue her. John Travolta plays a corrupt DEA agent.

By August 2011, the film was shooting in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles.[1] The sex scenes were filmed during the first three days.[2] The film entered post-production in October 2011.
Casting
Jennifer Lawrence was originally cast as O, but dropped out to film The Hunger Games instead.[3] Other actresses considered for the part included Olivia Wilde, Blake Lively, Teresa Palmer and Abbie Cornish.[4] In April 2011, it was reported that Lively had joined the film.[5]
Before casting Taylor Kitsch in the film, Oliver Stone asked Peter Berg to show him 30 minutes of Kitsch's work in Battleship to see how he was as a leading man, and after seeing that footage, he cast him.[6]
Trevor Donovan originally auditioned for a role that was cut but after seeing Donovan's tape, Stone specifically wrote him a part that was not in the book.[7]
Uma Thurman played O's mother, Paqu, but her scenes were cut due to time constraints.[8]
